Bill Rothacker has an impressive educational background and a tremendous career history having reached the heights of a large publicly traded company and then demonstrating amazing entrepreneurial skill in building his own successful real estate and investment business. Bill will share his fascinating personal history as well as his insights on how he succeeded in down markets and navigated through changing political waters.
Bill grew up in San Diego, attended a joint BA/BS program between Clermont McKenna College and Stanford University. He stayed an additional year at Stanford where he received a Masters in Industrial Engineering. He then followed a non-traditional path from that educational background into accounting – audit and consulting – with Coopers & Lybrand. He returned to Stanford and received an MBA. Upon graduation, he began what became a 21 year career at the Trammell Crow Company – at the time the largest diversified real estate service company in the world. Bill progressed from a retail leasing agent to a partner to ultimately a member of the Executive Committee of the Company from the time of its IPO in 1997 until his departure in 2002.
Upon leaving Trammell Crow Company, he founded Cadence Capital Investments where he has acquired and developed over $500 million of retail properties in California, Colorado and the Mid-Atlantic. Along the way, he was an early board member of Alfalfa’s grocery, which ultimately merged with Wild Oats and then Whole Foods. He was a founding investor and board member of Fresh & Wild Organic Foods in London, which was also ultimately sold to Whole Foods.
Bill is married to Laura Christman and between the two have five children.
